All About us

At Drakes Montessori Childcare we aim to meet the individual needs of every child within our light, spacious and attractive homely environment.  Small numbers of children enable us to provide individual attention for children of different ages.  There is plenty of space to play and free access is provided atall times to the beautiful large and secure garden.

We provide a high quality, flexible and educational childminding service.  Wherever possible we aim to meet your individual dropping off and collection requirements.
Jenny McArthur and Sue Slater gained their Montessori qualification at the internationally renowned Norland College; and are both experienced early years professionals.  Jenny formerly a Registered General Nurse and a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse has also worked as a Portage Home Visitor for children with additional needs.  Sue has experience of supporting children on a 1:1 basis in the nursery and has worked as a Study Skills Assistant with teenagers.  Both have been employed in early years settings and are qualified in Paediatric Emergency First Aid.  Jenny currently holds a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and both continue their Professional Development through regular training days.   Drakes Montessori Childcare provides a unique opportunity for parents to support the development of their child within a Montessori home-based environment.  Our specially prepared home is equipped with activities and materials to help develop your child's skills, in a multi-sensory approach including practical life, sensorial, language, numeracy and cultural activities.  Other activities include cooking, shopping, gardening, music and movement, art/craft, exploring the natural environment and outings and trips.

We are regulated and inspected by OFSTED to ensure quality activities in all areas of your child’s development.  Your child is given the opportunity to work towards the Early Learning Goals as set out in the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage through our home-based Montessori environment.  We are members of the Devon Child Minding Association, the National Child Minding Association and the Devon Montessori Early Years Forum.

Fees

 £5.00 per hour.  Fees are payable monthly in advance and we accept Sodexho Pass, Busy Bees and Accor Services Childcare Vouchers. We do not charge a retainer during the school holidays and school holiday provision may be arranged as required. 

Hours of Opening

Flexible Care Available	8.00am  – 9.00am
Montessori Play & Learn	9.00am  – 12.00pm
All around the table for Lunch	12.00pm - 1.00pm
More fun at home/out and about	1.00pm   – 3.00pm
Flexible Care Available	3.00pm   - 6.00pm

We ask that children attend for a minimum of 3 consecutive hours per booked day to minimise disruption for the other children.  However, we do not have a minimum session requirement.  Contracted drop-off and collection times can be arranged to suit your individual childcare needs.

Working with Parents

We operate an open-door policy and provide a Parent’s Notice Board and Resource Library.  Parents are kept informed of their child’s daily progress through their child’s “My Days Book”.   We promote healthy eating and provide a healthy morning and afternoon snack including drinks.  Facilities are available for children to sleep, rest or have a quiet time according to their needs.
