About me:

I am 37 years old and have worked with children for 21 years. I am trained as an N.N.E.B. and worked as a Nursery Nurse until my daughter was born. I have been registered as a Childminder since 1998 and mind children from birth, Monday to Friday. I am an Accredited Childminder as part of an Approved Network which is a Quality Assurance Scheme. This enables me to accept Early Years Development and Childcare Partnerships (EYDCP) Nursery Education Grants for children aged 3 and 4.

I have public Liability insurance, a First Aid certificate together with a Food and Hygiene certificate. Being part of a Network gives me extra support and ensures that I keep up to date with care and education issues. I have attended many courses covering a variety of subjects such as:

  • Special Needs
  • Child Protection
  • Planning and Observation
  • Working with older children
  • Physical Activities
  • Behaviour Management
  • Sign Language Supporting Speech

About my home:

My home is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, very near to Honiton Primary School. I have an enclosed child-friendly garden and a wide range of toys and equipment for indoors and out.

About our day:

Our day is based around play! Play is recognized as being central to every child’s learning. I believe in providing a caring, secure, fun and happy environment where the children can feel safe, valued, respected and confident. I aim to provide activities that are appropriate to each child’s age, where they can question and make mistakes on their learning path, without anxiety.

All children are learning as soon as they are born, therefore I ensure each child receives the same quality of care and education. I also ensure that they all have opportunities to:

  • Explore their environment and thus nuture their natural curiosity
  • Enjoy first-hand experiences
  • Talk, listen and watch

During all activities and free-play, be it planned or unplanned, I ensure that I participate or stand back as appropriate. Our day is jointly child and adult initiated, as enabling the children to make choices helps them to feel that learning is purposeful and enjoyable. I praise and encourage the children, thus enabling them to be self-confident and able to try things for themselves.
